Selection of NATO Summit Volunteers begins

Approximately 600 volunteers from the whole country will have an opportunity to be engaged in the organizational process of the Summit of NATO Heads of State and Government, thus gaining a unique experience of participating in an international event at a high level, being at the epicenter of events and experiencing things that will not be available to others.  Therefore, starting from today, September 4, the Summit of NATO Heads of State and Government Task Force will start the selection process for volunteers  who will assist during the NATO Summit.

Preparations for the NATO Summit commenced more than eight months ago, however, in order to insure the successful operation of the NATO Summit, the help of volunteers will be necessary during the last weeks prior to the important meeting.  Volunteers will have an opportunity to help in the Press Centre where up to 2 000 media representatives from all over the world are expected to work, in conferences involving non governmental organizations that will be held parallel to the official part of the NATO Summit, as well as in cultural events that will be organized for NATO Summit guests.  In addition, the help of volunteers will be necessary in the coordination of transport and logistics, information technologies and organizational and technical issues.

Every person who has reached the age of 18 years and  is willing to experience how in reality an event of such a magnitude is organized, how international politics are created and how the Latvian and international media work, are kindly invited to volunteer to help. Applicants should fill in an application form available on the NATO Summit homepage, enclose his or her CV and send it to the coordinator of the NATO Summit volunteers, Daiga Livčāne by e-mail  no later than September 20, 2006. Job descriptions for all the volunteer activities and the main requirement for applicants, as well as other relevant information for volunteers is also available on NATO Summit homepage

The Meeting of NATO Heads of State and Government will be held in Riga during November 28 - 29, 2006 when Riga will for two days, become the centre of international security discussions. Approximately 5 000 guests are expected to attend the summit.
