Saeima expresses confidence to the Cabinet of Ministers headed by Prime Minister Aigars Kalvītis

On November 7, 2006 the Saeima expressed confidence to the Cabinet of Ministers headed by Prime Minister Aigars Kalvītis. 99 members of the Saeima participated in the vote of confidence, 58 voted for and 41 – against.

In the Cabinet of Ministers there will be seven representatives of the People’s Party – Prime Minister Aigars Kalvītis, Minister for Defence Atis Slakteris, Minister for Foreign Affairs Artis Pabriks, Minister for Finance Oskars Spurdziņš, Minister for Culture Helēna Demakova, Minster for Regional Development and Local Governments Aigars Štokenbergs and Minister for Health Gundars Bērziņš.

The Green and Farmers Union will be represented by five ministers – Minister for Education and Science Baiba Rivža, Minister for Welfare Dagnija Staķe, Minister for Environment Raimonds Vējonis, Minister for Agriculture Mārtiņš Roze and Minister for Special Assignments for Electronic Government Affairs Ina Gudele.

The Union of Latvia’s First Party/Latvia’s Way will be represented by four ministers – Minister for Children and Family Affairs Ainars Baštiks, Minister for the Interior Ivars Godmanis, Minister for Transport Ainārs Šlesers and Minister for Special Assignments for Society Integration Affairs Oskars Kastēns.

The Union “For Fatherland and Freedom”/LNNK will be represented by three ministers – Minister for Economics Jurijs Strods, Minister for Justice Gaidis Bērziņš and Minister for Special Assignments for Administration of European Union Funds Normunds Broks.

The first sitting of the new Cabinet of Ministers will be held on November 8, 2006, at 12:00, in the Green Hall on the second floor of the Cabinet of Ministers, 36 Brīvības Blvd., Rīga.
