Criminal proceedings were launched in Riga Kurzeme district of the State Police Department following the receipt of information on the interactive map of the Ministry of Interior “Information about illegal alcohol, cigarette and drug trafficking sites” on the fact that suspicious persons are visiting their hosts in Lilliya Street, Riga, and that the smell of marijuana is often felt from the apartment.
On 14 May this year, criminal police at the Riga Kurzeme precinct carried out a search in the apartment indicated in the criminal proceedings, during which equipment intended for the cultivation of marijuana plants – foil tents, humidity and heat meters, fans and five marijuana plants were identified. Equipment and marijuana plants grown in it were removed. One gram of dried marijuana was also removed. A man born in 1987 who was previously seen by the police for a crime involving drug trafficking was arrested for committing a criminal offence. A man has a suitable non-custodial security.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated following the first paragraph of Article 253 of the Criminal Law on the illicit manufacture of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances. Punishment for such a crime is intended: deprivation of liberty for a period of up to three years or temporary deprivation of liberty, or forced labour, or fines and supervision of probation for a period of up to three years. As well as after the first paragraph of Article 256 of the Criminal Law on the unauthorised sowing or cultivation of plants containing narcotic substances. Punishment is provided for: deprivation of liberty for a period of up to two years or temporary deprivation of liberty, or forced labour or fines.
