On Thursday, November 19, regular check-in of passengers was started at Riga Airport using the automated border check system (ABC gate).
In total, there are 8 ABC gates at Riga Airport, four of which are located in the arrival zone of the first floor sector C, two - in the transfer zone of the first sector C sector and two - in the departure zone of the second floor sector C.
The ABC gate can be used by citizens of a Member State of the European Union, a country of the European Economic Area or the Swiss Confederation who have reached the age of 18 and are holders of an electronic travel document (electronic passport). At the ABC gate, border checks of European Union citizens crossing the external borders will be carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Schengen Borders Code.
"ABC gate systems have proven successful at international airports around the world, significantly speeding up passport control for passengers. The ABC gate system at Riga Airport will provide European Union citizens with the opportunity to cross the border faster without waiting in lines before the border check booths, thus ensuring smoother border checks of third-country nationals, ”says General Guntis Pujāts, Chief of the State Border Guard.
The project “Installation of ABC Gate at Riga International Airport” was implemented within the framework of the Internal Security Fund for 2014-2020. The total financing of the project is 1 862 587 EUR.
