On Thursday, June 11, a Belarusian citizen was detained at a border inspection post in Silene, who attempted to bribe border guards.
In carrying out border checks on persons crossing the State border, border guards identified a Belarusian citizen travelling in Latvia who placed a €5 bill on the car seat.
On a question from border guards for whom the money is intended, the man replied that for the border guards.
On bribery against the Belarusian citizen born in 1992, criminal proceedings were initiated following the first paragraph of Section 323 of the Criminal Law, while the person was held criminally by the Daugavpils Prosecutor's Office, entering into an agreement with the prosecutor on the recognition of guilt and fines of 10 minimum months. The fixing of €4,300, which will take effect within 10 days.
It should be noted that the man was fine with travel and vehicle documents, but the bribe was given to cross the country's border with foodstuffs whose entry into the European Union is prohibited.
Bribery qualifies as a serious crime for which deprivation of liberty under the Criminal Law of Latvia is threatened for up to five years, temporary deprivation of liberty, forced job or a fine of ten to two thousand minimum monthly salaries specified by the Republic of Latvia.
