On Tuesday, May 5, border guards at the border inspection post in Silene detained another bribery - a Belarusian citizen attempted to bribe border guards, offering a bribe of €10.
In carrying out border checks on persons and vehicles crossing the State border, border guards have determined that a cargo truck and trailer led by a Belarusian citizen travelling in Latvia has not been subjected to a national roadworthiness survey in accordance with the procedures specified.
In order not to be brought to administrative responsibility, the driver offered a bribe of €10 to border guards.
In the case of the use of a vehicle in road traffic for which a national roadworthiness test has not been performed within the prescribed time limit, an administrative penalty has been imposed on a man in accordance with ARTICLE 149.24, a fine of EUR 120, while criminal proceedings have been initiated for bribery in accordance with the first paragraph of Article 323 of the Criminal Law. In Daugavpils Prosecutor's Office, the person has been held criminally liable by entering into an agreement with the prosecutor regarding the recognition of guilt and a fine of 10 minimum monthly salaries, i.e. Setting €4,300.
Bribery qualifies as a serious crime for which deprivation of liberty under the Criminal Law of Latvia is threatened for up to five years, temporary deprivation of liberty, forced labour or a fine of ten to two thousand minimum monthly salaries specified by the Republic of Latvia.
