On Tuesday, June 2, border guards detained another bribing officer at the border inspection post in Greenbev, giving a bribe of €5, the border guards attempted to bribe the Serbian citizen.

In carrying out border checks on persons crossing the State border, border guards identified a Serbian citizen travelling in Latvia who presented a passport with a 5 euro banknote inserted in it to border guards.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated in respect of bribery against a citizen of Serbia born in 1991 after the first paragraph of Section 323 of the Criminal Law, which was transferred to the Ludza District Prosecutor's Office on 3 June for the initiation of criminal proceedings.

Bribery qualifies as a serious crime for which deprivation of liberty under the Criminal Law of Latvia is threatened for up to five years, temporary deprivation of liberty, forced labour or a fine of ten to two thousand minimum monthly salaries specified by the Republic of Latvia.
