On May 20, this year, border guards detained an organised group engaged in the import of goods subject to customs clearance into Latvia by smuggling and removed more than 5.5 million smuggling cigarettes.
During the night from Tuesday to Wednesday regarding the import of goods or other values subject to customs clearance into Latvia by a smuggling route committed in an organised group and large extent, border guards held nine persons, eight Latvian nationals and one Belarusian citizen, truck drivers in the parish of Svente, and in search of holdings. in the truck and trailer in the building, 5 675 180 cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps were identified. A car in Latvia with a hidden cigarette cargo in solar-battery designs entered Latvia only less than a day before.
Three of the detained persons were arrested in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Law by a decision of the judge, other non-custodial security means applied to the criminal offenders.
