On Monday, May 11, officials of the State Border Guard held two Latvian citizens for illegal movements of tobacco products in the county of Kraslava and removed 200 thousand cigarettes on NZ Gold with Belarusian excise stamps.
In examining information regarding the illegal movement of excisable goods, officials of the State Border Guard in the parish of Piedruja, about 200 metres from the State border, identified the Volkswagen Golf Variant brand car. During an inspection of the car, the border guards identified 6 boxes wrapped in black polyethylene film in its luggage compartment, but near the car, about 35 metres from the coast of the River Daugava, a further 4 boxes wrapped in black polyethylene film. In total, border guards removed 200 thousand cigarettes on NZ Gold with Belarusian excise stamps.
Two Latvian citizens have been detained in connection with the illegal movement of cigarettes. Criminal proceedings have been initiated pursuant to Section 221, Paragraph two of the Criminal Law (regarding illegal storage, transfer (transport) or marketing of alcoholic beverages or tobacco products, if so done by a group of persons after prior agreement). Persons are placed in a temporary detention site of the State Police.
