On Saturday, June 19, Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Interior Martins Stein and Secretary of State Dimitri Trofimov parted in the graduation of State Border Guard College and Rezekne Academy of Technology. This year, 34 border guards graduated from the first level professional higher education study program "Border Guard" of the State Border Guard College (SBGC), only 18 border guards from the second level professional higher education bachelor's study program "Border Guard" of Rēzekne Academy of Technology (RAT).
In his address, Mr. Šteins noted: “You, border guards, are the first to advocate for Latvia's internal security. The last year has taught us that not only a visible but also an invisible enemy who moves across the borders of the world can exist. It's a time that has taught us to be indulgent, to accept the unknown, and to think more about the other than ourselves. You are at the beginning of your career path and, as you know, in life, the key to success is the unrelenting desire to grow. I, therefore, wish you to serve your country in a self-denied manner, not to stop growing and developing."
The RAT and the SBGC cooperate closely with each other and with the European Border and Coast Guard Agency FRONTEX. Since 2017, the SBGC has been FRONTEX's Partner academy
Major work has also been carried out in this year for the RAT in the development of the course of study: for a period of 6 years, the Joint Master's Programme “Strategic Border Management”, in cooperation with the European Border and Coast Guard Agency FRONTEX, has been accredited.
During the releases, Mr. Šteins and Mr. Trofimovs also thanked the teaching staff of RAT and SBGC for their investment and the valuable knowledge transfer to existing and future professionals in the home affairs sector.
