On 7 November, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted an order on the provision of a psychological support course and an order on the transfer of technical means to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
The order “On the transfer of State movable property to Ukraine free of charge” provides that the Latvian State Border Guard will transfer technical means worth 39 172,21 euros to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine free of charge.
The State Border Guard Service of Latvia within the framework of the project “Capacity Building of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine” supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the grant project competition “Support for Development Cooperation in Recipient Countries Selected by the Republic of Latvia” announced on 13 January 2023 purchased mobile power generators, UAVs, portable charging stations, as well as a 3D printer with accessories to be delivered to Ukraine and transferred to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. The State Border Guard Service will also organize training for Ukrainian State Border Guard Service officials, supporting the strengthening of the capacity of the service and the development of further cooperation between Latvia and Ukraine.
The State Border Guard Service of Latvia is in constant contact with the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. Having assessed the information received, the State Border Guard of Latvia decided to provide support to the service, as the war in Ukraine caused by Russia has raised the need for technical means. The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine needs modern tools (drones, portable charging stations and 3D printers) to be able to detect and respond to illegal State border crossings, smuggling and other forms of cross-border crime in a timely manner, as well as to ensure the timely production of worn-out or damaged components of drones through 3D printing, as well as the charging of batteries of drones also outside the structural units.
The order on reallocation of funds from the budget programme “Financing for the Implementation of the Measures Provided for by the Law on Assistance to Ukrainian Civilians” provides for the allocation of 19 438 euros to the Health and Sports Centre of the Ministry of the Interior and 107 euros to the State Security Service to cover expenses incurred for the provision of a psychological support course to Ukrainian State Border Guard Service officials from 21 August to 29 September this year.
The Health and Sports Centre of the Ministry of the Interior provided a psychological support course to 36 officials of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine at the department of the centre “Dzintari”, Piestātnes Street 14, Jurmala, where it organized psychological support sessions, sports activities and a visit to the swimming pool, as well as catering and take-away food parcels for the participants. In turn, the State Security Service provided accommodation for the participants.
The subordinate institutions of the Ministry of the Interior will continue to provide support to the Ukrainian internal affairs services and soldiers, according to their capabilities and needs.
