On 15 June 2021, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in partnership with other institutions and organisations, is launching an awareness raising campaign in a digital environment, #CeļoApdomīgi (Travel Thoughtfully) aimed at providing advice to people in Latvia on their travel this summer.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the situation is changing day by day. What is safe today may not stay that way tomorrow. The motto of the awareness campaign is “Use your head, act wisely”, and it urges people to find out about the situation in the country of destination, make responsible decisions on travelling and be aware of the risks and prepared for what can happen along the way. Eight visuals and a short animated video with advice on travelling thoughtfully and responsibly and the possible risks that can be encountered will be distributed online by 25 June.
The campaign focuses on a suggestion to do your travelling and sightseeing in Latvia itself.
Travellers who would still opt for a trip abroad, are urged to choose a country with a low incidence of COVID-19 for their destination and transit.
Travel agencies – professionals who know the situation in foreign countries – are the best advisors on planning a trip. The organizers of the campaign would like to remind everyone that travel insurance is needed regardless of the destination. Upon returning to Latvia, safety regulations must be observed if such have been imposed. Safety regulations are not meant as an inconvenience but instead as part of a responsible and attentive attitude towards ourselves and people around us, so that we all can keep enjoying travel in times ahead.
Partners of the campaign:
The Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of the Interior and the State Police, the Ministry of Transport, the Association of Latvian Tourism Agents and Operators, the Simple Language Agency, Sustento (an NGO), the Centre for the Protection of Consumers’ Rights, Riga International Airport, and airBaltic.
Informational materials will also be displayed at Riga International Airport and Riga Central Railway Station.
