Tikšanās ar Polijas vēstnieci

On Thursday, 26 January, the Minister of the Interior Māris Kučinskis met Monika Michaliszyn, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland to the Republic of Latvia, in Riga.

During the meeting, security cooperation between the two countries was discussed. Latvia and Poland face similar national security challenges, namely hybrid attacks on the border with Belarus and the flow of Ukrainian refugees. Both sides agreed on the need to pay attention to what is happening on the Belarusian border, pointing out that Latvia, Lithuania and Poland need to synchronise their actions to avoid a situation where Belarus uses the weakest sections possible to push migrants in, which the Minsk regime uses as one of the elements of a hybrid war.

Our countries share a similar view of the security challenges in the region: hybrid attacks on our borders with Belarus and the consequences of hostilities in Ukraine. I would like to highlight the efficient and close cooperation between our border guard services: both at administrative and expert level, this cooperation allows us to respond quickly to challenges and threats," said M. Kučinskis.

The European Investigation Order (EIO) mechanism has established effective cooperation between the Latvian and Polish police services in the field of combating economic crime. There is close cooperation between the border services of the two countries: at both administrative and expert level, this cooperation allows us to respond quickly to challenges and threats.
