MInister for the Interior Marija Golubeva will visit the country's eastern border on Tuesday, July 13. Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš and the Chief of the State Border Guard, General Guntis Pujāts, will also pay a visit to the eastern border.
The visit was organized to get acquainted with the situation at the border and the work of border guards by visiting the Opole Border Guard Department.
Taking into account that a critical situation has arisen on the Lithuanian-Belarusian border in connection with attempts by illegal migrants to enter Lithuania and other European Union member states, the Latvian authorities are prepared to respond and prevent similar attempts to cross the Latvian border illegally.
