The e-mails received by Latvian educational institutions about possible security risks can be regarded as an attempt to deliberately create anxiety in society. I would like to call on the people of Latvia to remain calm and not to be provoked.
The security situation in Latvia is assessed as stable by the services responsible for Latvia’s security, and the terrorism threat level in Latvia is low.
Every effort is being made to identify the person or group of persons who sent the unfounded threat messages, in cooperation with Latvian allies. It cannot be ruled out that these activities are organized by countries unfriendly to Latvia.
At the same time, parents and children are urged to discuss and review the use of Internet sites and their content, including the various Telegram groups, where information about these events is expressed, and not to share this content further! This is exactly what these individuals want in order to create anxiety.
To explain the algorithms of the internal affairs services and security authorities and the situation in general, a press conference will be held today with the participation of representatives of the State Police, the State Security Service, the Ministry of Education and the Latvian Union of Local Government.
