Last Friday, July 17, during a clear day at around 11:00 on the street in Ilģuciems, a man, born in 1983, ran into a woman, born in 1956, and robbed her using violence. Despite the fact that the woman had a broken nose as a result of the blow, she followed the man and sought help from a passing cyclist.

Following the robber, the victim captured the place where he tried to hide. The cyclist turned out to be a bodyguard and he also helped catch the robber.

As the woman followed the shrimp, she saw a man take two purses out of his purse and drop the purse. One of the wallets was found next to the man, but the other was where he was hiding.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated for the incident pursuant to Section 176, Paragraph one of the Criminal Law, namely, for the theft of another's movable property, if it is related to violence or the threat of violence (robbery). This crime is punishable by up to five years' imprisonment or temporary deprivation of liberty, or by forced labor, or by a fine with or without confiscation of property and probation supervision for up to three years.

The man has previously come to the attention of the police for committing particularly serious crimes. In 2018, the person was released from detention, where he spent 10 years. The crime, committed on July 17, by stealing a woman's bag and causing bodily harm, was committed during an unserved sentence under police control. The man was intoxicated at the time of the crime.

On July 18, the detainee was remanded in custody by a court.

The State Police would like to thank the National Guard for helping to detain the man and recover the woman's personal belongings.
