The State Police had received information that illegal self-produced alcohol was being marketed in Salaspille in an apartment of a multi-apartment building. In carrying out investigative activities within the framework of the initiated criminal proceedings, officers of the State Police's Salaspila precinct, in cooperation with the legal guards of the Special Task Battalion, arrived at the specific address on Wednesday, May 20, to carry out the search.
During the search, the police identified and seized barrels and bottles containing a total of 110 litres of liquid with an alcohol-specific smell. Current information from the police has shown that it has been produced by the house's love-in-law. Similarly, 480 cigarettes without stamps of excise goods of the Republic of Latvia and 425 euro were detected and seized in the apartment, most likely derived from the marketing of illegal excise goods.
Police also detained the suspect's apartment lover – a woman born in 1966.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated following the first paragraph of Article 221.1 of the Criminal Law on the sale of illegally manufactured alcoholic beverages or alcohol containing fluids other than alcoholic beverages but offered as alcoholic beverages. The Law provides for the deprivation of liberty for a period of up to one year or temporary deprivation of liberty, or forced labour, or a fine.
