On Tuesday, November 24, the Cabinet of Ministers supported the initiative of the Minister of the Interior Sanda Ģirģens to grant bonuses to the officers of the State Police and the State Border Guard for work in high-risk and work-related conditions related to the Covid-19 outbreak and consequences.
The premiums will be paid for the period from October 1 to November 30 of this year, allocating for this purpose up to 704,513 euros of funding from the state budget program "Contingency Funds". The funds will be used according to the actual need.
"These allowances are due to the state's extensive work currently being done by the home affairs services to contain the pandemic. State Police and State Border Guard staff have continued to work selflessly in high-risk and high-load conditions since the pandemic was declared in the spring. The services perform this work conscientiously in parallel with their direct duties, and expose themselves to the risks of exposure to the Covid-19 virus on a daily basis, ”said Ģirģens.
At the same time, it has been decided that the mentioned allowances will also be granted for the period from 1 December to 31 December, and they will be covered from the state budget program 02.00.00 “Contingency Funds” in 2021.
Since November 9, when the state of emergency was declared in Latvia, the State Police has initiated a total of 246 administrative violation proceedings for non-compliance with epidemiological security measures. Also, from 9 to 23 November, during inspections of persons who have crossed the state border in the last 10 days and who have to observe self-isolation, State Police officers have made 13,014 telephone calls, left 2094 times during a on-site inspection and responded to eight calls .
