On 1 August of this year, the State Police Rīga Kurzeme station received an application from a man his stolen 1992 graduation car BMW 316 from the courtyard of the building in Rīga, from 31 July 2020 to 1 August.

The police launched an investigation into what had happened and advertised in search of the vehicles.

The next day, on 2 August, a man with a search car suffered in a road accident, so the police obtained information on the whereabouts of the vehicle. . The incident occurred in Rīga, in the rotation circle of Buļļa Street. Luckily no one got hurt  in it. Checking the identity of the driver of the BMW 316, the police found out that he was born in 1989 and that he had no driving rights. . In addition, the man's behaviour indicated that he was at the wheel under the influence of narcotic drugs or other intoxicating agents. An expert-examination has been appointed to determine this.

The man in question has confessed to the car theft. He was found to have entered the strange car through the luggage compartment and started the engine, bypassing the ignition mechanism. . At the time of the accident there was a passenger next to him in the car – a man born in 1988 . He is currently a suspect in criminal proceedings, but his involvement in the crime will still be explained during the investigation.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated following the third paragraph of Article 175 of the Criminal Law on the theft of a vehicle. . The Law on Such Crimes provides for deprivation of liberty for a period of up to five years or temporary deprivation of liberty, or forced labour, or a fine for confiscating property or without confiscation of property. If the results of the expert-examination show that the man has been intoxicated by narcotic drugs or other substances, the criminal proceedings initiated will also be qualified after the first paragraph of Article 262 of the Criminal Law for driving a vehicle, if there are no driving rights and if the driver is under the influence of alcohol, narcotic, psychotropic, toxic or other intoxicating substances.
