The meeting focused on cooperation between Latvia and Uzbekistan in the fight against organized crime and joint investigative activities, cooperation in the exchange of information on counter-terrorism issues, the fight against illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, as well as illegal migration.

When discussing Latvia in the international arena, the BOMCA 9 (Border Management Project in Central Asia) was highlighted, in the implementation of the ninth phase of which the Latvian State Border Guard led cooperation between partners in order to achieve the objective of the project - to improve overall security in Central Asia, including Uzbekistan.

State secretary of the Ministry of the Interior Dimitrijs Trofimovs, as  well as, other representatives from the Ministry of the Interior, the State Police, the State Border Guard, the State Revenue Service, and the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs also participated in the Commission.

The Commission was established following an agreement concluded between Latvia and Uzbekistan, which provides for the exchange of information, assistance in the detection of crimes, as well as, the exchange of work experience between national law enforcement authorities.

Latvia and Uzbekistan have established close co-operation in researching the scale and development trends of organized crime, terrorism, illicit drugs, psychotropic substances and precursors since 2002.
