On Wednesday, November 11, a video conference of the Union of Local Governments of Latvia (LPS) was held on current events during the emergency situation related to Covid-19. The Ministry of the Interior was represented by Dimitrijs Trofimovs, State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, and Mārtiņš Baltmanis, Deputy Head of the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS).
The event discussed the decisions and restrictions taken during the emergency, as well as the provision of face masks and personal protective equipment for needy and low-income people, transport facilities and transportation of Covid-19 infected people, the provision of face masks and personal protective equipment to sources.
D. Trofimov thanked the local governments for their support to the Ministry of the Interior and its subordinate institutions in limiting the spread of Covid-19: I would like to say a special thank you to the police of Riga and Daugavpils municipalities, which, in cooperation with the State Police, were able to react quickly and ensure the supervision of public order and security in the spring and also now - during the emergency ”.
SFV representative M. Baltmanis, speaking at the conference about the current epidemiological situation, informed that there are currently no common standards for the use of hygienic face masks, however, he called for the use of guidelines developed by the European Union when purchasing hygienic face masks. The SFRS representative informed that already on Saturday, November 14, hygienic masks could be distributed to the municipalities in the Civil Protection Commission, and the municipal masks will be passed on to persons with the status of low-income or needy.
The event was also attended by Daina Mūrmane-Umbraško, State Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Jānis Volberts, State Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Science, and Ingus Alliks, State Secretary of the Ministry of Welfare.
