Covid eksprestests

As of July 12, a new procedure enters into force, which envisages to provide persons entering the Republic of Latvia crossing the external land border with an immediate opportunity to perform the Covid-19 test at four border crossing points - “Grebneva”, “Terehova”, "Pāternieki" un "Silene".

The rules have already provided that a person, on entry into the Republic of Latvia from the country concerned, carries out a Covid-19 test immediately but not later than 24 hours, determining SARS-CoV-2 virus RNA at the nearest available test point. At border crossing points, too, the Grebneva, the Terehov, the Pathermen and Silen tests will have to be carried out by their own means.

The decision was made in view of the rapid spread of the new most contagious virus, Covid-19 (Delta). Extensive testing is essential given the prevalence of the most contagious Covid-19 virus (Delta). Those who have taken the Covid-19 test at the border crossing point will also be expected to take it in the area. Only after the presentation of the results of the Covid-19 test to the State Border Guard and after its permission, persons will be able to leave the territory of the border crossing point.

The tests will not be carried out on persons who can show a valid Covid-19 certificate of vaccination, diseasement or Covid-19 test, or in children below age of 12.

In cases where the Covid-19 test will be positive or, if a person refuses to carry out the test, the Emergency Medical Service will bring the person to the tourist accommodation for mandatory isolation.

In cases where cases of Covid-19, such as the driver of the freight vehicle or passenger transport, the carrier concerned is obliged to ensure that the issues arising from the transport in question are addressed.
