On Sunday, 28 November, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen arrived in Latvia the day before the meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers in Riga. Ursula von der Leyen and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg met with Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš.
During the meeting, they discussed the situation on the border EU Eastern border and the current security situation in the region.
Ursula von der Leyen confirmed EU’s support to Latvia by providing financial and human resources to secure border infrastructure. European Union will allocate 200 million euros to strengthen border infrastructure of Latvia, Lithuania and Poland.
